Power Tool Maintenance/Setup/Alignment

When purchasing machines, knowing about ease of setup, maintenance, alignment and blade changing matters in making the best choices. Learn how to make your shop tools perform best. Gain tips from experienced woodworkers to help in troubleshooting existing problems.

We now offer two Power Tool Maintenance/Alignment Classes:

Power Tool Maintenance/Alignment I: Planer & Jointer Featured:  Learn how to make your shop tools perform best. First, a 15" planer is broken down and realigned including infeed/outfeed rollers, chip breaker, table rollers and blade changing. All maintenance and lubrication will be demonstrated. The jointer receives the same attention so that both tools perform at their peak. Next, Jerry will de-rust an entire cast iron table and show how to make its surface appearance better than new. There will be a power tool repair question and answer session and bearing replacement demonstration, as time permits. Bring a note pad if you intend to align your tools at home. See POWER TOOL MAINT. II for other tools.

Power Tool Maintenance/Alignment II: Table Saw & Band Saw featured: The morning is dedicated to the table saw. See how much easier maintenance can be made with the table top taken off. Rack and pinion and sliding, tilting metal parts will be appropriately cleaned and lubricated. Precise measurements will be made for arbor run-out. All remaining alignments will be made in "real" time. This includes the table miter gauge slot parallel to the arbor, miter gauge, rip fence and saw guard splitter. The band saw, drill press, radial arm saw and miter saws won’t be disassembled, but aligned as a newly purchased tool. Disk, belt and random orbital sanders will be covered as time permits. Bring a note pad if you intend to align your tools at home.
