Using a sliding table (sled) on a table saw is the safest
way to make cross cuts. If aligned, it guarantees a perfect 90-degree cut every time. Make
two sliding tables with several safety features, saw guards, hold downs, and miter guides.
Everyone is encouraged to make more than one for special purpose needs such as blade tilt
angle cuts or slotting. Because the hands on opportunities require skillful drill press,
table saw, jointer, planer, and radial arm saw use, you are required to have completed
the JUMPSTART I
class.

tips from experienced woodworkers to help in troubleshooting existing problems. Knowing
about ease of set-up, maintenance, alignment and blade changing matters in making the best
choices when purchasing machines. First, a 15" planer is dissected
and realigned including infeed and outfeed rollers, chip breaker,
table rollers and blade changing. All maintenance and lubrication
will be demonstrated. The jointer receives the same attention so
that both tools perform at their peak. Next the drill press, disk
and belt sanders and thickness drum sanders will be attended to.
Even though the band saw is covered in the band saw box class, if
time permits, it will be aligned in this class. The table saw is
covered in Table Saw I.
